What is a Trex deck going to set you back around here? If you are tired of staining a pressure-treated wood deck every couple of years, you are probably looking at composite Deck Construction in Detroit. In Metro Detroit, a fully installed Trex deck generally runs anywhere from $45 to $85 per square foot. For a standard mid-size 16x20 deck, that usually translates to a final price between $15,000 and $25,000 all-in. Top Line Decks Detroit sees homeowners sticker-shocked by those initial numbers, but once you factor in our local weather—heavy wet snow, ice, and brutal summer humidity—the math starts to look quite different.
What Drives the Cost Up or Down?
Not every Deck Construction quote is built the same. Several factors move the needle on your final bill for Deck Construction:
- The Trex Product Line: Trex offers tiers ranging from entry-level Enhance to premium Transcend and Lineage lines. Upgrading from basic boards to high-end heat-mitigating composite changes material expenses substantially.
- Substructure and Frost Depth: In Southeast Michigan, building codes require concrete footings to go down at least 42 inches to clear the frost line. Digging through heavy clay soil found across Wayne and Oakland counties takes extra labor and muscle.
- Height and Access: A ground-level platform is straightforward to frame. A second-story walkout deck requires beefier posts, extra bracing, and safety gear, which increases labor.
- Layout Complexity: Simple rectangles keep waste and cut time low. Custom picture-framing, multi-level designs, or integrated LED stair risers add hours of skilled labor.
Typical Price Ranges for Detroit Decks
To give you a better idea of what to expect for your property, here is how standard sizes break down locally for professionally installed Trex Deck Construction builds:
- Small 12x12 deck: $7,000 to $11,000 for basic configurations.
- Medium 16x20 deck: $15,000 to $26,000 depending on tier and railings.
- Large 20x24 multi-level deck: $28,000 to $45,000+.
What is Included in a Proper Quote?
A professional contractor's estimate should never be a vague single-line figure on a napkin. When we price out a job at Top Line Decks Detroit, our itemized proposals cover old deck demolition and disposal, local municipal building permits, structural lumber or steel framing, concrete footings, hidden fasteners, Trex decking boards, matching fascia trim, and standard aluminum or composite railings. If a quote leaves out permits or debris haul-away, expect those costs to pop up later as unpleasant surprise add-ons. How to Avoid Overpaying
Homeowners do not need to spend excessive money to get a solid outdoor living space. Stick to a simple rectangular footprint to minimize material waste and labor hours. Choose a mid-tier board like Trex Enhance Naturals if you want the wood-grain look without paying top dollar for specialty heat-resistant lines. Get at least three detailed bids from licensed local contractors who actually pull permits and carry proper liability insurance. Make sure every quote specifies the exact fastening system and framing dimensions being used so you can compare apples to apples.
